David, thanks so much for your critique. This is why I love being part of this family. I appreciate the feedback as my images are seen through the eyes of others. I have reworked the original image, did some cropping and worked on the background. I really like how this reworked image looks now. Comments, critiques?

Original Post:
Asheville, North Carolina, received its first measurable snow today (11/6) so I grabbed my camera and went out to my yard to capture some images before it melted.

Our roses received their first taste of snow but I think they will survive. Here is an image from one of the tree roses, not sure the variety. I used several filters to come up with this image. I like the softness of the tones yet you can still identify the snow.

Camera is a Nikon D70, handheld, in the snow!

Comments and critiques are always welcome. Welcome winter!

Barbara, I can't wait for snow. Beautiful soft color tones. Nice painterly look.

Looks like you are having a great time working on your images Barbara. My one suggestion would be to clone or crop out the right side corners and only show the rose. This effect works well on this image.Have you heard of texturing? I think this type of image would be perfect for that technique. Some examples would be my latest post and Cindy Mead's "Tree Sparrow" and Fabs Forns "The Visitor" which are still posted for viewing. Check them out. I think you would enjoy this technique.I am looking forward to your progression in Photo Art.

Thanks to everyone for viewing this image and your critques. I'm still learning all there is about digital manipulation and I know I have a long way to go, but reading your comments is what keeps me going and striving to do my best. Thanks so much.

First snow! Love it. Very nice rework– softer, more delicate and luminous– just like first snow... Sigh... Well done.
