Evening Grosbeak

Evening Grosbeaks have returned to my yard--hopefully they'll stay all winter again.

I set up some perches near the feeder, but this is a natural perch in the yard. The yellow supercilium is always a challenge with this species--perhaps I should desaturate the yellows to get a little more detail there?

Your comments and critiques are appreciated. Please view larger version if possible.

Canon 7D, 500mm + 1.4x, couch as a beanbag--shot through the open living room window.

1/200, f/8, ISO 640

Crop to 59% (10.6 of 18MP).

Superb details and the complimentary yellow flowers in the URC are great.

Nice one Brian - great detail and I think the perch is a beauty - I'd be leaving it there.

Great shot Brian! Nice BG and I like the feet on the different parts of the perch.

Yellows look good Brian I would leave them as posted. Nice perch and detail were it counts most.

Great detail on the larger version, the yellows look fine to me. A beanbag couch blind sounds like a good marketing item, way to go.

That is some really fine feather detail Brian - even in the yellows one still sees the detail. Perhaps a tiny bit of desaturation might help, but you don't need much if any. I too like this perch. I'd be inclined perhaps to remove the left portion, as the right part is more appealing. Also, if birds are inclined to land here you might want to prune or tie back the green branch in the bg for a cleaner bg. Just minor suggestions to a really good shot.

Nicely captured Brain- I like this as is. The larger image has great detail, particularly between the shades of brown...and the yellows look great to my eye. :toast:

Nice pose and perch, and excellent detail. The yellow brow and fron has sufficient detail on my monitor.

Super photo of a bird I have not had the opportunity to photo, they don't seem to like my yard.. He looks pretty comfortable with the camera. The "sofa pod", maybe you could market that through IKEA ?
