Blue Evening
by Stan Rose
Another one from the Great Sand Dunes last week. I have probably taken hundreds of shots of this dune profile, but none of them look quite like this--the snow squalls building over the mountains were a deep blue, and the patterns in the dunes left by earlier precipitation were accentuated by the fg lighting. Minimal pp.

40 commentsThis shot is wonderful. The light is striking and sets a moody feel to the pic. I might crop a bit off of the top.
Call me Mr. Blue.... and I'll tell you that I love the blue here. No doubt the conditions you witnessed through this whole winter squall event created some wonderful and unique lighting and color situations. What a great combo here. And beyond the drama of the stormy sky, the variation in tone in the dunes really makes this a great and unique capture of this place.
The Stan Rose Book on the Great Sand Dunes is due to be released: when?

Lon--im really hoping to have a book out in the Spring, i have to wash my publishers fleet of SUVs first tho
I love storm light, and this is one of the best I have seen. The sky is awesome. The color contrast between the dunes and that sky just sings.
If I had more than two thumbs, they'd be up for this one. Well done!

Outstanding work Stan!

Just a thought, but you said minimal pp. Care to share the unedited version so we can see the difference?
Hey no dust spots! ;]
the depth and the colors of this image are stunning. Bellissimo!
The wisp of falling snow from the upper right gives a very nice sense of direction. To further emphasize it, I think this needs to be viewed against a darker background.
