We were headed out to some birding while in RMNP this fall when theis bull elk and his harem crossed the road and headed up to the trees. It is interesting to me how all of the cows line up in single file when they move from place to place.

Nice capture on this herd! Hope that you got some nice bird shots as well! Great place for both.

This is a nice action capture with the bull bringing up the rear. Thanks!

Nice capture of the herd indeed, the pano format works well here!

Hi Richard,

I think the highly technical term for this behaviour is called "follow the leader"!

This is a case where the larger version of the image really out-shines the standard size (thanks for posting the larger one!). I'm not sure HOW you cropped this (all of the foreground vs. equally on top and bottom?), but I'm thinking a little more off the bottom (removing that bush in the lower right corner) - and a little more on top - would make this shot stand out even more. If you DON'T have more room above then I would leave the foreground alone - I don't think you should go much "narrower" on this image. Just a thought and my 2 cents worth...nice shot as is!

Cheers...thanks for sharing this...

Brad

Wow, that's a harem! Agree on cropping the bush but only if you have it up top to add. I like the contrast of grass and evergreens.
