In My Woods

Taking a break from autumn color to ask a question about a crop. Whic do you like best, the full 4x5 or the crop to 2x1?

Of course this photo was made in my neck of the woods in the Santa Cruz Mountains. I love the light in these woods, and after it rains, the aroma of wet redwoods and maples is very intoxicating.

Hi Youssef! I like the 2x1 cropped version best. For me it highlights the vertical lines and the brown and bright green color contrast better.

By the way, this is a nice photo either way IMO.

Both work very well. 2x1 definitely conveys a stronger mood IMO. Great work.

Youssef,

This is outstanding! I love this! Full frame, no question. The more square inches included the more pronounced the depth and separation of layers front to back becomes.

I had to re-read your description because I was asking myself, where in Yosemite did he capture this?

only minor suggestion would be to burn down the highlights in the UR quadrant - otherwise, I think this is wonderfully seen, beautifully captured.

This image is fantastic!!! I love it.

Both are great, but I prefer the 4x5. It gives me more of a feel of being in the woods with you while you were making this.

It is a lovely image!! :toast: :toast:

I love this! The balance between the twisty trunks and the straight trunks is wonderful. I definitely prefer the 4x5 crop because it has more of feeling of spaciousness and gives the trees room to move.

Very nice, indeed!

Definitely the cropped version for me Youssef. Both are beautifully detailed shots.

Gorgeous, Youssef. This is the type of scene that drives me nuts when trying to compose, it always seems so busy and I have a very difficult time making heads or tales of it. Well seen :toast: :toast:

That sounds like a great location. The light on the moss is really nice. I like the full sized one. Very pleasing to look at.

Youssef,

Excellent find. I just love the green moss on these trees. I'm sure that large prints will look stunning.

The rainy season really makes our local woods outstanding.

This is probably level, but I'm having a little trouble that the redwoods lean to the left as they provide a comon frame of reference.

Wonderful image. It feels as though you can reach into the depth of the woods.

I think you could market either one, but I really prefer the 4x5 because of its broader tonal range. Beautiful work, Youssef.
