Ancient Symbols

by Steve Sieren

Gallery: Man & NaturePosted November 30, 2010848 views17 comments
Man of the past was considered a violent animal and in need of taming by North American setttlers. Would you consider the indians who did this just like the present day us?

Owens Valley, Eastern Sierra

I captured the scene at sunset with the appearing earlier too but I just felt the light painting would bring more attention to each specific symbol a little more effectively. For those that don't put light painting in their cup of tea maybe I'll post the sunset version at a later date.

PS, sorry I haven't been commenting much with all the holidays it's been busy for me visiting family, guiding in J-tree and close to home in the Santa Monica Mountains. There has been plenty of great work here on NPN and I've been enjoying from the phone.

I guess this must fall under the category of "Ancient Man and Nature". I saw it in ESS and then it was gone. The light painting really works here. Nicely done.

I really like the effect light painting has on these symbols. The colors are very interesting and make this image pop! The moon adds to the spooky factor on this one.

Steve, I think this is great. Petroglyphs are fascinating, but I've rarely seen a photograph that is able to capture the energy and mood one feels when viewing them in person. This image does exactly that. The light painting and the misty, eerie feel to the moon really adds a lot to this image. Terrific work.

Your light painting really showcases the acient graffiti here Steve. I like this a lot especially against the night blue sky. Beautiful!

Steve,
First, I like the suppression of the moon with the cloud. Second, the light painting looks very nice in this scene. It helps spotlight each figure. :toast:
