Tis the Season

Every year we encircle our Christmas tree with pointsettias. Before they have to go to work, I thought I would try and capture a shot of one of them to share for the season.

All comments and critiques encouraged and welcomed.

Canon 5D MkII 90mm T/S f16.

A wonderful wash of Xmas color, Bob. Great idea with the poinsettias.

Beautiful image of a poinsettia Bob. Superb comp and lighting. I particularly like the darkness in the center of the flower. I've shot these many times and never gotten an image I like this well. I suppose that if you wanted to extend the leaf in the top center that you could to cover the space but I also like seeing the leaf's edge.

Lovely detail, Bob. So glad someone shot a Poinsettia. I would love to see a touch of white in this image. Maybe a vignette???

This really gets me in the holiday spirit! I like how the greens are bright to bring my attention further into the center of the flower. I like the DOF and the clean lines.

Really pretty shot, Bob . . . exceptional work. I notice that the leaves in a few areas seem to lose detail where the reds are most saturated. For example, just a bit down from the upper RHC. Not sure if adjustments to saturation or brightness would help bring that detail back, or if it's even worth the bother.

Edit: I pulled this up again on my calibrated monitor and I don't see the same issue with detail that I'd mentioned above. Everything looks great. The other monitor I was viewing this on at the time of my original comment is pretty close in most respects to my calibrated one, so I generally feel comfortable making comments of that nature. I'll have to be more cautious next time!

Bob:
I see a lot of these decorating christmas tress in the shopping malls here in HK. The red here is really striking and the texture and details are great.

As nice an image of a poinsettia as I think I have ever seen Bob. Really nice comp with great color. I like it a lot. I find these guys very hard to shoot.

Nice shot, Bob. I've always found pointsettias difficult to photograph. I'v ebeen more successful with a group shot rather than a single flower. This works really well. :toast:

Bob: This is one of the very best poinsettia shots I've seen in a long time. Terrific job on the reds especially and the details in the center. 2 thumbs up! >=))>

I too have not had a successful shot of a poinsetta, but you succeeded admirably here. Great idea about surrounding the tree as well. If I weren't traveling to NS I'd make the investment. Hope the weather holds. :wavey:
