Isle of Skye, Scotland

A river of crystal clear aquamarine water carves its way into the rock resulting in some cool formations, cascades and pools. Sunset shot after a night of snow.

Canon 5DMkII, 16-35mm 2.8L, ISO 50, f22, 10s, polarizer, GND filter.

The exposure is so special that it makes this almost abstract, I think the color dictates the composition and the flow of the image more than the shapes here. I like it a lot.

I like the layers and colors, especially that deep reddish chroma in the mid.

Lucky to get snow here! Been several times in winter and never had it! I bet you had some fun down here...its a paradise for waterfall photography...and its great to see a different view of it.

Hi Kah Kit

I didn't know you'd been to the Fairy Pools. These are a beautiful set of aquamarine pools nestled below the Cuillin and that peak with the channel in it just right of dead centre is known locally as Waterpipe Gully. Folk use these pools for swimming in the summer though it looks a bit chilly here. You have a beautiful moody representation with a nice dusting of snow.

Wonderful capture as usual. It's probably level, but I feel as though it's leaning because of the topography of the BG. Great shot all the same.

Beautiful shot Kah. I really like the colors here and the long exposure worked very well with the clouds streaking towards the viewer. Well done.

Powerful image...minor nit is that the image seems tilted counter-clockwise...

Kah Kit,

I hate to be the one to dissent, but we pride ourselves in being honest right?

Actually this is a fine mountain landscape with a great lead-in with the stream and the motion in the clouds make this quite dynamic. But for me, the purple/magenta color of the streaking clouds just doesn't seem to fit the scene; especially the greens and clean whites in the stream. Maybe it's because I used to have a Coking GND years ago that gave this kind of color cast. I don't know what GND filter you're using but the color as well as the light balance between the top and bottom just aren't matching up for me.

I wish I could say different, but that's just what I'm seeing.

Lon, I think this is one of those locations like Lake Louise where the sky and water will not match up due to the strong colour of the water. I thought that someone would bring up the difference in colour of the water which is why I commented on the aquamarine colour. There's a bit of purple colour reflected in the midground water but I would agree that the heavy ND grad would have contributed also to the discrepancy but perhaps less than one would expect.

Hah! I knew there would be an issue with Scotland's genuinely purple skies. There is indeed a genuine disparity of colour between the pools and the overhead sky which is evident to the eyes as well as the camera. A heavy grad will possibly exaggerate it but not nearly so much as you'd think. The blue of the sky behind it looks pretty close to normal.

I agree about the kind of mismatch between fg and sky color, this is noticable, but the comp. is really strong and in fact it is the sky that sets the mood for the whole scene. Yeah, it has an almost abstract feel.

You sure like these long twilight exposures, huh? The effect takes me to a magical place, very nice!

Between the sky and water, this photo evokes such a sense of movement that I can almost hear it!
Very nice.

Great comp, and I agree with the others about the purple sky. It also seems to lean to the left, especially if you look in the middle of the scene where the water begins.

Wow, those bg mountains are beautiful with all that snow, and the soft coloured sky is the perfect backdrop to the image. The bottom rock really anchors the comp very well. The light is very white and bright, which adds to the cool, crisp mood.
