I don't get creativity points for this, but its such a beautiful spot in the Southwest that I just had to get my shot.. there's simply not many compositional options in this short little canyon.
I used my new 45mm TSE lens to make a 3-shot panorama blended from 2 focus settings to compress the most interesting folds in the canyon while retaining full depth of field. I took this just before the sunlight crept into the frame (you can actually see a little if you look closely) for maximum reflected light.
With all the more creative stuff I post, I sometimes feel like I'll disappoint you if I don't keep pushing those boundaries... hope you can still appreciate this one
Oh yea -- Marc's comment reminded me -- I should probably say, the day I decided to go it had been below freezing at night, and I encountered belly-button deep standing water in the 50 yard squeeze leading up to this part of the canyon... it was cold. Very, very cold.

35 commentsI remember the first time that I saw an image from this location posted by Guy (a secret spot at that time) I still find the images from Zebra fascinating. A short time later I was fortunate to meet up with Guy who was gracious to show us the canyon, very cool place.
The foreground is probably among the sharpest things I've ever seen. Fantastic!
I like the composition and the in-crescendo light effect. Very nice!
I'm very interested in your work with the 45TSE it must be a fun lens to play around!
This is a great photograph of an amazing place, well done.
What time of day was this taken roughly?
Every single time I attempt this entry, I hit water that reaches neck high, whereupon I throw in the towel and retreat.
You want to get here early in the morning (leave the car at sunrise), and then sometime in mid/late morning the sun will start to illuminate the canyon walls. Probably changes a bit with the seasons, of course. The stretch of water isn't too long, and there's a dry spot at the end where you can shake yourself off and recollect your thoughts!
Yeah, yeah, yeah, just another boring slot canyon image. right.... This is fabulous! The intimate view, the opposing walls, lines and curves make for a compelling slot image. Great mix of shadow detail and highlights.

I really like this presentation. The late-season light is very nice.
the light looks excellent
I think the photo is quite nice and your approach a great one. The only critique is that I'm not totally found of the yellow intensity in the upper background mid-left.
