Finally a bird taken very close to my house. It's a non native species but they have been living in my town for about twenty years.
It's not easy to find them at eye level because they prefer stay higher in the magnolia plants, pines and cypresses.
Two days ago I was coming back home after work and I saw some of these parrots eating olives. I ran to take the camera and this is the result.

40D 100-400 @360
f9,0 1/80
ISO 400
80% of full frame.
HH from the saddle of the scooter.

Thanks for viewing.
C&C are very welcome.

One thing that I like about Nature Photography is that we do not have control of everything and so we are free to enjoy what we capture and understand why we pushed the button. Thanks for the insight on this nice shot of a very handsome bird.

Dan
PS I thought the key to a good photo was shooting from a pickup window. Now I have to get a scooter too.

Thanks guys.
May sounds strange, but in my city the scooter is the only way to survive in the traffic, I'm always on it with all-weather.

Good looking image, Monica. I too like the eye and it's always good to capture a bird with food in it's beak, nice one.

You did a fine job of taking advantage of an unexpected opportunity. I like the food in it's beak, it adds interest to the photo. :toast:

Love the leaves in this shot and how the bird's head is framed Monica. Exposure and sharpness on the bird look good.

Monica this a sensational shot, very well composed and with great detail-and captured at 1/80th HH? That's really remarkable! Non Native or not, this guy certainly knows a good food source when he see it!

Great feather detail and sharp eye. The bird's color makes it stand out from the leaves. Definitely worth scooting for the camera.

What a beautiful bird... wouldn't expect something like that from Italy but what do I know. Love that the berry is clutched in the beak... good job getting it so clear considering the mix of branches.

I like how we can clearly discern the bird amongst all the vegetation and its sharp too, Monica. I find the eye ring particularly interesting here and I appreciated the info you provided too. :toast:

Nice image. Shame he was a bit buried in the tree, but the olive in the mouth is a great touch. Wonderful color on this bird and I like the eye.

Lots of stuff going on here Monica but the wonderful colors of the parrot mostly overcome that to help it stand out against all the leaves. Sharpness looks very good (good focusing job through all the leaves) and I like the olive in the beak and the eye. Since this is 80% of FF I might consider a slightly tighter crop, especially from bottom but this is very nice as is.

Great job Monica, perhaps it's a non-native species. But it sure fits in well :toast:

From the scooter  Genova weather and climate even if warm are not usual and friendly to parrots, aren't they? Anyway, the larger version offer the opportunity to see the big details you managed to capture. Thumb up for both the photo and the techs.

Cheers, Luca
