Eastern Phoebe

by Howard Cheek

Perhaps the most familiar flycatcher in eastern North America, the Eastern Phoebe nests near people on buildings and bridges. It can be recognized by its emphatic "phee-bee" call and its habit of constantly wagging it tail.
This guy is all fluffed-up, just after a bath..

I like Phoebe's, Howard. They always seem friendly....but really they are likely just watching us to see what bugs we will stir up....like this one is. Nice detail and pose. The bill is slightly invisible...but that's the price of the cute head position. You could consider a vertical crop, especially since much of the branch is OOF. :toast:

Howard, I like the very subtle light you've captured here, the head turn of the Phoebe and the BG. I note the noise but I don't see that as an issue, and it's easily extracted. :toast:

Love the overall comp here Howard. Great pose by the phoebe. Given this is more than 75% FF I too might try a vertical presentation with this shot. Only small nit is the beak being hard to find, not a real issue.

And endearing pose Howard. The background's a little different but I do like it. I was going to mention the beak being a little hard to make out but I think Steve said it best - " The bill is slightly invisible...but that's the price of the cute head position." A tradeoff, but worth it for the cute pose.

Very nice pose. That eye makes it pop, and I like the softly toned background.
Interesting text along with the image.
