This is another in the leafs (I've heard some people pronounce it that way and sort of like it) series. Thanks for the encouragement on the last one. I've been having these thoughts that I might like to visit Yosemite next autumn, but, don't worry. I'm sure it's only temporary. I'll get back to normal once I start working on rocks again.

This is of course ZNP taken only a very short distance from the parking lot for the Narrows. I've been to Zion many autumns and don't remember the leafs here being orange. I've heard that the obvious line at the bottom of the leafs is there because this is how high the deers (see, these plurals are starting to sound right aren't they?) can reach to eat them.

I'm a little surprised at how little Photoshop I added to this one. It was almost done entirely in ACR--lowered the contrast and increased the vibrance. Had trouble figuring out where to go from there. This subject doesn't quite speak to me like sandstone, or maybe I just haven't figured out how to listen to it yet. Please feel free to provide appropriate translation (and, don't be shy, I know there are some good leaf-listners here). Seriously, I do always appreciate the comments and continue to learn from them.

Tony I have been looking at this for a while and I can not find any faults or nits. It is simply a pleasure to let my eye wander around and find new things to look at. Isn't it nice when we can't improve upon Mother Nature. Awesome. Cheers.

WOW!! This just blows me away. As good as any of your sandstones, and that's saying A LOT!! This is superb Tony - just delightful.

I wish I could give you some constructive critique here Tony but honestly, it's perfect as-is. Beautifully composed, the colors are right on and nicely saturated, but not overly so. I would love to see what you could do in Yosemite. Keep 'em coming!

Your pix seem to have that extra artsy dimension to them.
Not only the technical skill required as a photographer but that extra artistic quality that only comes from an artist is present in your work, and this is no exception.

I’m not sure, but maybe I would have included the base of the trees in the LRHC.

Tony,

I think they spoke to you with all they needed for you to make this stunning photo. I could not think of anything else I would do either, except to print it big an enjoy it.

This is simply exquisite! I only might have opted to include a little more at the bottom. As I've alluded to in one of my posts this season, compositions like this speak to the essence of Zion as much as do any of the more iconic images we all easily recognize.

Great shot Tony, first one I've seen of yours that isn't rock! ( not that there's anything wrong with that!) A really lovely scene and certainly nothing I could criticise.

WOW, that's some color Tony! I visited Yosemite after Zion this year and was absolutely floored by the color I saw there and how I hadn't heard more hype about it before. Definitely worth a visit in the autumn. Nice work on this one, I would personally like a little more room at the bottom of this one in the RHC, but everything else looks great.

These leafs  are simply glowing. I like the repeating lines and strong trunks. Beautiful!

I think this is very well composed except for that rock in the centre. I distracts a little bit and makes the composition less "pure". Very nitpicky, I know. The rock-man needed to smuggle his rocks into his imagery and there needs to be someone to notice it  Color and light looks great.

This is beautiful, Tony. Great color and I like the flow created by the arrangement of the dark branches.

The way this framed with the digonal of the browse line give this a very three-dimensional look. The color is right on. I like how the wall of leafs begs the question; 'What's on the other side of this little forest?'

Well done, Tony!

Being able to see under the tree canopies into the distance adds depth and interest to the scene. I like the color contrasts also. Actually, I like this as much as some of your sandstone.

Tony,

Leafs, rocks, trees... they're all the same aren't they? You need to give yourself more credit because you could put yourself in any environment and create beautiful imagery! So there.

I really like the dynamic of the diagonal "browse line" as you call it. I'm pretty sure you were serious about the deer and I believe that's true. at least I know it's true about the oaks in Califoria where the cows and deer manage to keep all the oaks with a perfect line about 6 or so feet off the ground... :-)

I think the arrangement of the trunks and leaves (sorry leafs) work very well here. I'm still torn about whether or not I want to see the bottom of the trees on the right, but on the other hand, the diagonal line is showcased well.

Color wise, I was going to mention that I think you could de-sat the magenta which mostly shows along the top middle. Otherwise, great color. And an excellent autumn image from Zion. Keep up the leaf peeping.

I'm on the laptop at the moment. I'll definitely take a look at that magenta when I get home. Hard to remember in this size, but it may be the rock back there giving some of the coloration, but will check it eventually.

Tony,

Very well could be the canyon wall back there. I didn't even think about that. Kinda like that blue/gray I'm getting in the Yosemite images. BTW, you just let me know when you're coming to Yosemite!

Beautiful, Tony! Almost gives me the feeling of walking through an orchard, with the deer giving it the manicured treatment. Not many orchards I know of full of this kind of color though!

A really fine tree landscape, although probably not quite in the league of your stone images. The organization of tree trunks holds the composition together well but it feels a little cut off at the bottom.

lol...great commentarys! Beautiful scene here Tony. Its great to see your eye working on other subjects like this. This works pretty good, expect the anal part of me keeps going back to that cut stump in the bg and thinking what a shame. Also, if I may be ultra critical... the upper left part of the foliage feels a bit mooshy because its a little too bright without some contrasting darks to seperate the "leafs".

Wow, I was really surprised to see this was yours! Very nice, it appears you speak leaf quite fluently! My only suggestion is that you might de-sat and darken the trunks/branches just a tad to make the "leafs" stand out even more.

The colors are spectacular, and the browse line imparts dynamic energy to the image. I think I too would like to see a bit more space at the bottom, but that's a minor issue. Beautiful work.
