Horned Lark
by Richard Ditch
Horned Lark (Eremophila alpestris)
Place: Scottsdale, AZ
Date: November 13, 2010 3:02 pm
Equipment: Nikon D200, Nikkor AF-S 300/2.8 & TC20E 2x), monopod from car window
Exposure: aperture priority matrix metered, ISO 400, 1/750th @ f/11, -2/3rds ev compensation
Raw, PS CS3 on Mac G4, cropped to 81% of frame
The same bird as in my recent post, also taken from the car window. Horned Larks are ground-loving birds of open desolate places and do not sit on branches, so seeing them on a dirt pile is normal.

12 commentsI've been seeing this species since I was a kid and though I'd never thought about it before I don't think I've ever seen this species on a branch - always on the ground or a rock or boulder perch. Shows you how observant I can be...
this is an excellent representation of a subject in its environment . I really like the clear break between the foreground and background, which gives depth to the image .

I think I like this one best because it's isolated in the frame so well
