This is an image taken on the spit in Homer, AK this summer. I had shot several images of this eagle when he decided he needed to change perches. This is the only one I was able to get of the take off. I wish I had not clipped off the wing on the top, but other then that I like the image. I appreciate any comments that will be made.

Canon 30D

Aperture Priority
Shutter 1/1500
Aperture f5.6

Cropped to about 80% of original for comp.

Agreed, it would be ideal to have the whole wing. It is a very nice look at this guy, with a terrific pose though. Given the one wing being clipped, I'm trying to think of a crop that might make it more of a portrait than full-body shot, but not sure how I might do it.

Richard, Nice post. Following up on terry's comment ... One idea might be to crop from the right and clip his tail too. That might provide the illusion that the bird is flying into the frame, but honestly not sure.

Nice capture in spite of the wing.

Cheers,

Carol

Richard even with the wing clipped off, this one great image. Great exposure and detail.

Nice exposure, sharpness, and detail.on this shot Richard. I like the BG too as it shows habitat but is blurred enough not to impede on the bird. A full wing would have been nice. If this were mine I would crop in from the left and cut off the other wing to about the same spot as the top wing. That would make this a flying profile type image where the emphasis is on detail of the head and tail.

I think this looks good with the pano crop. You've got plenty of room in front of the eagle. detail looks very good, though there is a halo, small minor and easily fixable. Great capture Richard

The detail in the browns and whites is excellent. I think Ron's idea of cropping the left wing tip would improve the comp a little bit. :toast:

Very good photo Richard. The cut off wing is what it is, the image is still excellent. :toast:
