Brown Thrasher

A large, skulking bird of thickets and hedgerows, the Brown Thrasher has one of the largest song repertoires of any North American bird.

Shot this morning about an hour ago.
F/11, 1/800th, ISO 400, Canon 1D Mark III, 300mm f/2.8 + 1.4x ext and natural light.

Very nice image. How did you manage to get this guy in the open. I have seen many, many Brown Thrashers, but none of them close enough and in the open enough to get this good of an image.

Really nice pose here, and nice branch.
Fine detail and great eye.
Some will not like this centering, but with such a long tail, it works fine for me and might be a bit awkward with a lot more room in front as will be suggested.
I might drop the entire BG out with a (free trial) program like Topaz Re-mask and leave just the nice blue.

Another excellent shot Howard. I really like the intense expression on the Thrasher's face.
Was this shot at your feeder?

Nice job getting it out in plain view like this. I like the image as presented and wouldn't delete the background.

Very nice shot Howard, not an easy bird at all to get out in the open or perched. Love the eye contact and your comp works for me. Good detail in the thrasher as well. great image :toast:

Superb. I really liike the shading from the head down and around the underside. Gives a dimensional boost.
Don't know much about Thrashers, but how does it stack up to a mockingbird for song repertoires?

Wonderful out in the open thrasher shot. I was lucky enough to get my turn at one over the summer. I like the composition and angle of the bird. :toast:

Nice pose and light, Howard. For some reason the oof foliage in the larger version draws my eye a bit. :toast:

As I've more often heard than seen these birds ("thrashing" around under our holly bushes), I am very impressed with your spot-on shot of this species on a branch out in the open. Love the light/shading on the bird's breast. Congrats. Beautiful addition to your portfolio!

Good job getting this skulker out in the open. Super perch and background. I like the way he's perpendicular to the lens giving a good view of the head, breast and tail. Interesting bird too! :toast:
