The Simien King

I was tracking a group of gelada baboons up to the cliff rim. It was raining. The monkeys, one after another started to climb down the steep rocks to get in caves where they hide at night. The big male remained alone on the edge of the abyss. The last rays of the sunset appeared under rainy clouds and the yawning monkey male showed his giant canines. It came like a gesture of a king of this beautiful mountains.(Nikon D3+80-200mm/f2.8 lens, 1/320s at f10, ISO 800).

I was just thinking about these baboons today for some reason. Such a fantastic scene, Petr. The layers of mountains really enhance the image.

Great capture, this image has a little of everything - a wild animal, its behavior, its habitat.

This shot has everything. The gelada would work by itself, the recession in the mountain would work by itself, and the sky certainly would. All three in one picture? Just amazing, and one of the most dramatic pictures I have ever seen posted on here.

Amazing! The vertical composition with those tall peaks in the BG, the diagonal lines, the contrast in light FG-dark BG, the clouds framing the image at the top and of course that impressive colorful subject with canines exposed all work perfectly well together here and create a masterful photograph! Certainly one of the best, or probably the best, baboon shot I have ever seen too. :toast: :toast: :toast:
