Another Limpkin
by Richard Teller
Here is another Limpkin image from Myakka State Park in FL. I feel very fortunate. Not living in or around areas are Limpkins habitat I did not realize that it was some what difficult to get a good clear image of them. This one gave me lots of good looks. The only thing I did not like is that I clipped off his feet at the bottom. I also did some blurring of the background and some burning of the background to tone it down a bit.

5 commentsI don't know this species but from what I see may not be very easy to get a clear shot.
I think you did a good job to bring the subject out, but I can see some pp artifacts around the legs. The detail in the plumage is fine and shows a very nice pattern, the beak and the neck are a bit less detailed. Maybe a bit of selective sharpening could be useful. Too bad for the feet, overall a very nice capture. Thanks for sharing.
I have to agree with Monica, good details in the tail plumage, but the lights didn't help you: especially in the neck area details are reduced. selective masking for sharpening, lights/shadows and maybe exposure might help a bit.
Cheers, Luca
Limpkins are such interesting birds and they can be difficult to get out in the open and the white plumage is easy to blow out so I only photographed them in early morning, late afternoon or diffused light. I also see the issues with the blurring of the background around the legs. You may have needed to go to f11 or f13 to get the whole bird in focus since you were rather close.
