Ice Glass

I saw this ice formation hanging from around a tree in the back waters of the WI River a couple of days ago. The water level had dropped a foot or so which created these formations as the ice started to settle. It made me think of champagne glasses hanging upside down. Thought it might be fitting for the new year coming up.

The larger version of this image is beautifully clear. Really nice image of a great ice formation.

Beautiful shot- the processing looks great. I have some ice shots yet to get out of the camera, curious as to approximate white balance you used for this. Daylight or a little cooler I would guess? It looks very natural, not the cyan I have seen sometimes. Wel done. Glass slipper for me, though size 13.

I've seen this kind of ice very often but always failed to capture it aesthetically. Thanks for showing me how it's done, Nick.
I wish you all the best for 2011!

Very interesting find and you captured it beautifully. I like that you kept some blue in the icy water.

Thanks for your comments on this so far. This was a fun find. I ran out of light before I could do all I wanted. There were lots of different formations in a small area here. It was 5:30 pm central time when I shot this. I do have one other shot I will post later. I went back yesterday but It didn't look the same anymore. Really appreciate your thoughts and comments. They have been very helpful through this past year.
Harry, custom white balance at 6050. It got too blue for me cooler than that. Thanks, Nick

Perfectly captured, Nick! I've seen formations like this before, but nothing so elegant as this one.

Hi Nick,
Wow, it's a magical and unusual ice formation. Totally agree with the glasses hanging down metaphore.

Great shot!

Great clarity here Nick. The detail is wonderful, I really like the water in this scene, just enough texture and the slight reflection is awesome. Any time you are in Ontario give me a shout, it would be great to go out with another photographer. Cheers
