Taken from the Makawehi cliffs on the last day of our vacation in Kaua'i, 4/10.

Canon 5DII. 16-35/2.8. ISO 100. f/16. 2 exposure blend at 0.3 sec and 1/20 sec plus lots of luminosity masks/painting using Tony K's actions. C&C appreciated.

Must see LARGER VERSION!

This is gorgeous Doug, especially the larger version! Beautiful comp, perfect shutter speed, and a glorious sky - all the elements for a beautiful image!

So peaceful and warm.... Not much unlike the foot and a half of snow I got right now. Very nice image Doug.

Nice shot Doug, I really like the compositioin. I'm undecided about the wave action though. It seems to be right between that smooth look we see so often and sharp/crisp. Overall a fine image with great details and tones. Definitely a keeper. :toast:

The larger version appears to be only inches from reach. Love the colors all around, but those in the fg water are a bonus to this treat of light.

Pretty simple comp, but beautiful non the less. I like it!

I tried commenting on your shot yesterday, but the log-in problem prevented it. It's great that we're back online now.

The V shaped gap between the clouds really ties this together. I also like the luminous feel of the water. My only nit is that the foreground appears too bright. In several areas, the tonal values in the foreground are even brighter than the sky.

Just because we *can* show complete tonality from the brightest highlights to the darkest shadows doesn't mean we should. Darkening the foreground a bit, and perhaps even brightening the sky a hair would restore the sense of reality.

Incredible image, Doug. I really love the variety and intensity of color. I agree with Ben that the land in the LLC does look a bit unnaturally bright, but at some level I like the colors and textures it adds to the scene. I could see toning it down a bit, but please keep the greens as it's a great splash of color there.

Such a great moment you captured here, Doug! I agree the foreground llc is a touch bright, but agree with Tony to keep the color. :toast:

Thanks so much for the input. Here I have darkened the fg and very slightly brightened the sky. How does this work?

Gorgeous color and light Doug. I like the repost but even without it this is a beautiful and tranquil scene.
