Nice flight shot Sandy, to my eye the white cheek patch looks too bright. Happy New Year!

Beautiful light on this sandhill Sandy. Detail is good and impressive especially with this shot being handheld. Were you not able to use a tripod?

I like the golds Sandy. Sharpness looks good. The bird quartering away from you is sometimes a nice view and I like it here. Working hand held is the way to go for flight shots if you can do it and it seems you are getting the hang of it. Well done. I agree with Nate, the white cheek is a bit too bright. You might be able to bring down the entire image just a tad to help that out.

Simply gorgeous light and nice flight position on this crane. Nicely blurred background too.

Hi Kurt, I never use a tripod for flight shots. I rarely use one for ANY birds - only if they are coming into a predictable perch.
I just find tripods too confining, too slow, and too cumbersome.
The excellent "Flight Scool" workshop with Jim Neiger a few years ago on hand-holding techniques helped - highly recommended!!
