I was trying to give a feel for where these birds live with this more open shot and I spent a lot of time messing about with apertures and the zoom to try and get it. In the end most of the decisions were made for me by the weather. I have a love-hate relationship with my tripod - I love leaving it at home, and I hate taking it with me - however I shouldn't have left it behind on this occasion as the light was abysmal all day long, hence the iso setting.

LARGER VERSION

5D2; 100-400 @ 160 mm
iso 1600; 1/80; f5,6
hand-held; spot metered; 30% cropped off for comp; minimal neat image nr

C&C most welcome

Hi Eric,

Like the way you placed the small bird in it's habitat. Perhaps you could have even placed it further to thel left for my liking but well done thinking outside of the box.

All the best for 2011!

Hi Eric,
I like what you wanted to say with this shot. But you really should have used you tripod to
achieve a bit more DOF. That would support your idea. But probably the bird would have been
too fast for setting up a tripod.
All the best for 2011!

My first thought was that the bird was too small imn the frame, but the more I look at this, the more it grows on me. I do think that placing it slightly higher in the frame would have improved the composition slightly, but no big deal.

Hi Eric

I like the idea but for me it doesn't quite work I think mainly because the BG/habitat is too much OOF.

Like birds small in frame and the rusty tones.good pose on the bird and the detail is there.Good Idea to have the large image open within your site so we can have a look at your new stuff. The only pastime I have done longer than photography is angling so I have enjoyed both parts of your site equally. :toast:
