WC 464 Rainbow Collage

Lake George, New York, August 2009, looking east across Northwest Bay to Tongue Mountain, late afternoon after a storm passed through. In more than 40 years visiting Lake George, the only view like this I have ever seen.

Canon 40D, 17-85mm lens, f/8, ISO 400, probably with polarizer. Clockwise from top: 50mm, 1/160; 17mm, 1/250; 85mm, 1/320. All shots in less than three minutes. Modest brightening and contrast adjustments, collage in Picasa.

The best to everyone for 2011,
Dave Thomas, Leesburg, Virginia

You don't see too many rainbows that arc that low. August, huh? What time of day? This looks like an unusual rainbow to me as well. This reminds me that rainbows are fun.

I checked the techs but forgot the exact date, sorry. Actually July 22, 2009, about ten photos between 5:57 and 6:00pm. I picked three for an interesting collage.

Rainbows are indeed interesting. For example, check my comment on Hawaiian Rainbow, about "Alexander's dark band," which is evident in some of the Weekly Challenge postings, including mine.

Thanks, Dave

Definitely a powerful rainbow and an interesting choice of views. I particularly like the panorama version with most of the arc!
