Guarding the Gold

Happy New Year everyone!

This image was refined last year by incorporating suggestions made in the fauna gallery.

The situation was very fluid. Rain shower moving one direction, Bears moving another, me trying to position the two in the same frame in a calm, non-threatening manner. This sow had two cubs with her that she had stashed in the depression just prior to this shot. Moments later the rainbow disappeared from my angle of view.

Canon 20D 70-200 2.8 @ 70mm AV 1/400th@ 5.6

Thanks for looking.
Comments always appreciated!

Love the shot but if this was taken at 70 mm with a grizzly mother and 2 cubs I hope you hightailed it for a safer location!

Sweet! Talk about fortutitous juxtapositions. The snow patch on the left is nice, and the pano has some appeal (suggesting journey to the left) but honestly i think this is even more killer as a square crop (get any at 200mm?)

Wonderfull shot Neil.I like the ideas for cropping but I am sure that you reviewed the crop more than once on this super image.

The original post here shows a couple different crops and the comments that coached the image in this direction.
I like it in all of it's different forms because I get to relive the experience. I was with the three of them for over three hours.
Thanks for looking

A fantastic opportunity and you certainly made the best of it, Neil! The grizzly definitely makes it special.
