Haystack Rock

Nikon D700, 24-120 F4 @ f8. Seven blended exposures. Didn't correct for lens distortion as yet.

My first attempt at blending exposures. This is a shot of Haystack Rock located in Cannon Beach, OR. Didn't take the time to have a interesting foreground object but rather focused on taking bracketed photos that would make a good blended exposure.

All comments welcome and much appreciated.

I'm not sure how you kept the gulls, dogs, and tourists out of this or how you kept your tripod from moving in the sand between exposures, so I am sure you deserve some kind of award. The green on the rock looks a little weird to me, but that is because I see this monolith all of the time. The tone of the sky and the reflection is what caught my eye this is very nice indeed.

I like the comp. The green on the rock does look a bit off, maybe too saturated. If you used an HDR program for the blend that's probably the cause of it. The rest of the colors look natural.

Actually, I used Elements 9 exposure merge and I probably oversaturated the photo a bit to enhance the blue of the sky and over did the greens. My bad. Also, I cloned out one dog and 4 tourists! :toast:

I like the minimalistic composition. Agree with the others on reducing the green a bit, which will also balance out the rest of the colors in the frame (cyan sky into blue, orange into red etc.)

Thanks much for the feedback. I tend to get too heavy handed with the saturation levels of my images. Here is another copy that has been desaturated. The greens are still a bit dark but there wasn't that much light and haystack rock was totally black against the sky on the light metered exposure.

OK, I guess I like the first one better, though I'm a bit of a saturation junkie. The comp is quite nice with the off-centered rock. The blend seems to have gotten all the tones in check. I'm thinking that a little more processing could bring out some better texture maybe.
