Fighting foxes #5

by Phil Shaw

Gallery: Regional: UKNPPosted January 5, 2011344 views27 comments
Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes) - Essex.

Nikon D3, 200-400/f4, WH2 + Gitzo 3530LSV.
Manual exposure mode f5.6, 1/1000, iso 800.
RAW image processed in Capture One; sharpened in Photoshop CS5; noise reduction using Noiseware Professional; full frame.

The Don finally prevails.

This fight was definitely not anything like as savage as some of fights I’ve witnessed in the past between rival males. After this, which was shot on 5th December, though, I didn’t see Sonny again until 2nd January, when he was back to keeping a low profile.

These just keep getting better and better, on this one you can even see bite marks on the one on the right. No nits from me, just admiration for a superb series.

Difficult to imagine you could ever better this image, the action, lighting and setting are perfect. Although your previous 'fighting foxes' have all been fantastic I like the seperation in this one showing both animals really well.

Fantastic series of images. This looks pretty ferocious. I like form of the shadow in the background.

Astonishing series of images Phil and this one trumps the lot. You should have the fighting foxes market well and truly tied up for a long time with these.
