A Storm is Coming

Another image taken right outside my hotel on the Isle of Skye. With the rainstorms moving over the mountains the light was changing constantly, resulting in the image you see here, where the rainclouds seem to swallow the light blue sky. The glow in the distance is the sun peeking shining on the clouds but gave the whole thing an omnious feeling.

When processing this image it gave me a sort of Lord of the Rings feeling, hence the title (from the LOTR OST  ) I blended in the blue sky from a different exposure, since the DR was too high.

7d, 9mm (gotta love hte new sigma for apsc)f/22, Tk's actions in PS

Hi Jorne,
Great photo I really like how the clouds mimic the water movement, that really makes the composition powerful.

Very dramatic scene. I like most of it. The mountain in the background looks as though a grad ND was used and placed a touch too low.

Thanks for the comments!

Keith: no grads where used, the sigma 8-16mm does not take filters

Yeah - that's a great one, Jorne. Both the clouds as well as the water action are stunning and they work great together.

Lots of drama here. The two moods in the sky are quite interesting. Exposure here always seems difficult and you've done well presenting this and making an effective composition.

Lovely shot, and I like the hint of warm light on the horizon left. Interesting concept of water above and water below.

Sweet! Great dramatic scene. The bottom portion seems just a tad too bright given the dark sky--since you're going for ominous here, probably wouldnt hurt to burn the fg a bit. :wavey:

The clouds fee very foreboding, and the banks of the very seem to echo the forlorn character. The top of the mountains seem a bit dark to me, but not at all that much out of sync with the overall light in the rest of the image.

9mm!? Wow that must give you a super wide field of view Jorne. I love the scene; very powerful with that flowing water and dark sky above. The blend looks fine, although I agree that the top of the mountain could be lightened a little. I do wish we could see a bit more of that beautiful golden light on the left. Perhaps a different shooting position (from in the middle of the river  ) could have achieved that? :toast:

Great drama in this image. I might burn the water area just a tad to balance the brightness of the sky as Stan mentioned. Also a good size dust spot in the skyy, center right might need to be cleaned up. The shutter speed hold just the right amount of detail for me. :toast:
