Blackwater Nightscape

Trial and error led to this image. Not very experienced with night photography. The color in the sky was a surprise - the clouds were there, but my eye didn't see the orange. Looking at the image, I could have moved the boat for better comp?
Always take my old 30D on kayak expeditions b/c it would be least painful to lose if I dumped. High (noisy) iso b/c longer exposure blew out the tent, even after covering the led light inside.
Canon 30D, EFS10-22, 20 sec @ f/5.6, iso 800.

I like this photo a lot David...looks like a real fun trip!
I would like to see a little detail in the dark trees. This could be accomplished with a 2 exposure blend in Photoshop, which would take care of the hot tent also.

Is that snow or sand?! I've never heard of kayak camping in the snow, so I'm gonna assume it's sand. Anyways, great camp shot! I like the orangy clouds, they add a neat color contrast to the blue sand. Richard is right you could have made some aspects of the shot easier with a 2-exposure blend, but I doubt you'd ever have picked up any light on the trees unless you light painted them.

Thank you both. Next time I'll experiment with many more exposures and some light painting and see if I can't pull out more details. This is a sandbar on the Blackwater River in Florida. The river is somewhat broad with the trees on the far bank... not sure my small LED flashlight would light them up enough. Anyway, your feedback is most appreciated.

This is pretty cool, David. I mainly wish there was less detail in the snow - I assume its lit with some sort of artificial light or flash??? but it looks out of place and less 'natural' compared to the lighting on the tent and in the sky.
