Yellow-rumped Warbler?

by Harry Harris

Shot this at a small city park near Fullerton, California. The Yellow-rumped Warbler (I think) was hawking insects and returning to his perch. I got lucky and got this shot. I for the first time added some canvas to the left to give him room to fly into. Crop shows 50% of original.

Comments are appreciated.

Good try, Harry. We do see vertical lines in the blue sky at the left that don't look quite natural. The human eye is so sensitive. You really need to be very fussy about such things. The motion blur in the wings is o.k. because it means motion. Also, you do have a fine catchlight in the eye. To me the bird is a little soft overall though. Maybe a bit more sharpening could help. The red leaves do compete with the bird for our attention and I don't think that they deserve that attention. Anyway, congratulations on obtaining a BIF shot. They are about the toughest type of shot in bird photography. Keep at it!
