Snowy Snipe

A Dentist's appointment got me out of work early today and I was able to check out my favorite haunt after a big snowstorm. No Bittern's, but this Wilson's Snipe literally flew into the watering hole just as I pulled up (guess it knew I was on my way). Took some patience but I was rewarded.

Nikon D300s 300 f4 + 1.7X TC shot from car window resting on pillow
f/8
1/1600s
ISO 400
Matrix Metering

Cropped to 68% of original, sharpened using Smart Sharpen and USM in CS5 on 27" iMac

This is the last post for about a week as I'm headed to Sunny Florida for a few days.. hoping to nab a few new species.

very nice habitat shot Luke. Love the snow all around especially the bill and feet. that poor fellow must have been cold. This really tells the hardship of winter in the northern hemisphere. thanks for sharing mate

Good find, Luke. He's a bit lost in the frame; always a problem with these cryptic species. Good job managing the bright snow.

I like this setting, the early light, and the snow at the base of its beak adds well Luke.
A significant number of birds will not make it through the harsh winter, this image speaks to that..
Well done :toast:
