This was right after I bought my camera. I stopped to take this picture of the sunrise near the water crib on lake michigan. I under exposed it on accident. But I like the way it turned out. T2i Rebel f/14 1/100 sec ISO 125 70mm spot metering

I like the subtleness of this image. Would probably crop out a lot of the blackness on top, so as to focus more on the beautiful sky and water reflection.

Paul,

First of all welcome to NPN! Very cool sunrise image. I'm assuming the dark band up top is clouds? Seems unique to have such an expanse of uniform darkness. Certainly a beautiful sight to witness and photograph. I like the "accidental" darkness of this as well.

Hate to do this on your first post and I know an oversight, but I'm going to move this to the Man & Nature gallery after posting my comments. While very small in the frame, the boat/platform or whatever out there is certainly man-made and obvious in the frame. Hope you understand and if you have any questions don't hesitate to contact one of us moderators.

Thanks, and welcome aboard! We look forward to your images and participation.

Thanks for moving the pic. I agree about the crop. As for the five to one. I will try to comment on some photos, but being new I dont want to say anything for the sake of saying it. I will do my best. Thnaks for all the help.

I agree with Dave and Rich, crop off a majority of the blackness and you have yourself a pretty nice pano.

I like where you're going here. Love the tones. Transitions with gold and bronze are great. I think it needs to be cropped closer, losing alot of the negative blackness and allow the boats to have more impact.

As for commenting, this is a rule of thumb. Even to say what you like about an image helps the photographer- you will learn and so will he/she.

Heck- In my years here, I post more to the forums than the galleries because I'm a portrait guy, so my images aren't always appropriate for NPN.

Welcome aboard-

Welcome to NPN Paul! I like the warm light. As for the dark cloud, I don't mind it at all but might suggest a slight crop so you have thirds of water, bright sky, dark sky.
