Mountain Bluebird Female

Here is an old Bluebird photo I found in my files. It is from a backyard blind on a set up perch. Background is distant pasture, before greening up in the spring. Larger version is included.
D90, 300f4, iso 320, 1/320, beanbag, natural light.
Thanks for looking. The bluebirds will be back in Montana in March.

Beautiful! The feather detail on the large version is amazing. Perch with yellow moss (or lichen?) was a nice choice. Did you lure her in with mealworms?

Almost wish this were a vertical comp so more of that beautiful perch was included. Lovely as-is, though!

Very nice clean image in good light. I'd back off slightly on the sharpening with the larger version.

Beautiful color and detail, Dan. I like the pose and interestingly don't find the yellow stuff above the bird distracting. I'm still considering Richard's comment about the need for slightly less sharpening. Possibly the very sharp eye ring in the large version may be evidence of what he is referring to. However, when I don't see any halos or obvious crunchiness, then I think sharpening becomes more a matter of personal taste. :toast:

Dan , this is top notch. I really love the subdued colors of the female and it goes really well with the background.

Nice shot - good pose, intereting branch, and clean BG.
From here, both the small and larger version look a bit over-sharpened - maybe JUST from here.

You really own these bluebirds Dan! Biting sharp image, just show 'em this one when they ask if the 300 is sharp. We won't be able to see any for a month after you typically.

A real beauty, Dan. Good comp and great detail, although as Richard said, I'd back off the sharpening on the larger version.

Nice soft lighting and very nice detail Dan. Very nice colors in the perch and the background is very pleasing. Maybe just a tad oversharpened in the larger view. Overall superb image.

Excellent shot- I agree with a horizontal crop but I'd add a bit of room to the upper and lower side- besides that, the shot is technically perfect (the details on the larger version are awesome, beanbags work well indeed)- well done, Fabio
