Caracara Portrait

Here's another image of a Crested Caracara from San Bernard NWR outside of Houston. I found this guy on the ground and since he was standing in a rather uninteresting spot, I chose to crop in to a vertical portrait. This is about 50% of full frame.

Canon 7D, 600 MM, 1/4000 @ f4.0, ISO 200
Manual exp., spot metered, no flash, not baited.
Shot from car window on bean bag.

Comments and critiques welcomed and appreciated

Stately portrait!
I wonder if this was a large crop- lots of detail loss in the larger image.
Great to catch this guy, though.

Wonderful pose for this portrait. A little soft in the white feathers, but still a pleasure to view. Sharon

Rather noble looking in this presentation, Randy. Beautiful light and excellent detail. There does appear to be a problem with detail in the larger image-but I suspect it's a processing issue. :toast:

Thjis bird looks too proud to scavenge. Its a great portrait imo, its full of character and pleasing tones. Don't know what happened to the larger version, but the effect is painting-like.

I like the comp on this portrait a lot Randy. Agree with others about the loss of detail on the large version.

Nice portrait shot! Larger version is not as sharp and detailed as the post size.

Very nice portrait Randy. The small post looks awesome. Nice head turn and great background. The large version looks like you are right at the limit of such an extreme crop.

Really regal looking portrait of this bird. It feels painted..Lovely. Background as cropped is very nice and complimentary. Just amazing detail in the bird on the larger image. Your luck at San Bernard has been way better than mine.

Randy,

It is a regal looking portrait of this Caracara, I like the pose and eye contact. The larger version looks like it had NR applied to it as I am not seeing much detail.
