Guarding Egret

This mother egret was protecting her chick.

I darkened the background slightly in this image. Does it work? or is it too obvious?

Critiques and comments are very welcome and appreciated. Thanks for looking!

Beautiful, Carol. The bg works for me. There seems to be a small area on the back where the white's are blown. If you shot this in RAW, you might be able to bring them down. The little ball of a chick is cute. :toast:

The dark background works for me. I agree with Dennis on the high whites on the back. Perhaps a touch more selective sharpening to the back of the neck?

Beautiful, maternal image; whites have been noted and BG looks great. I'd be proud to call it mine :toast:

Love the pose of the adult and how it is standing over the chick Carol. I also love the view of the adult's plumes. I'd work on the brightest whites, they do seem to pull my eyes away from the rest of the bird.

Nice Carol. I like the breeding plumage. Nice head turn giving the view of the eye.
