Winter, snow, ice ... it seems like it's been a long winter and it's not over yet. I find it challenging to photograph snow and ice, but I keep trying.

I captured this image about a week ago at the Biltmore Estate here in Asheville. We had cabin fever but as soon as the sun came out we headed out for a ride. I initially thought it would make a good black and white image so I tried that conversion. Still not happy with that look, I pulled the image into Color Efex Pro for this artistic look.

I think the branch on the left is just a tad distracting, but I couldn't crop anymore from the image. However I do like this look and think it could make a very nice holiday card.

Camera is a Nikon D70, handheld on a very cold day.

I appreciate your viewing this image and comments are very much welcomed.

Hi Barbara,
I checked out your web and you took an otherwise mundane image and turned it in to something special. I like what you did. Nice job

Thanks everyone for viewing this image. You're right Jason. Snow is a hard subject, but I feel the time spent in post-processing this image was worth it. I think it's fine to help Mother Nature every now and then. And I'm really pleased with the result. Thanks for checking out my website. I have a new gallery called "Before and After" where I show the original image and how it changes depending on the processing techniques and this image is in that gallery. Thanks for all the comments. They are greatly appreciated.

Beautiful Barbara. If you have CS5 content aware fill might aid in removing the branch on the left.

Thanks David, I'll give that a try to see how I like the composition.
