Certainly not the most impressive of species to capture, but the combination of snow, shadows, and contrast of cool/warm tones makes this one somewhat appealing.

Canon 50D, EF135/2L with 1.4 TC, shot through open window on tripod.

I really like this image. I like the very alert pose of the squirrel and how it stands out from the rest of the image. Great comp.

This is great composition and has wonderful light, and the squirrel is very, very clear.

I like the shadows and how the squirrel adds the only color.

Hey Jim,

Geez, what do you do when your boss posts an image?? Major conundrum! "Greatest shot I've ever seen"? Aw heck, I'll just be honest and risk losing my gadzillion dollar year-end bonus...

I like the diagonal flow to the image and you really nailed the exposure (at time of capture or in processing). One of my own favourite things about squirrels is the beautiful coats they have, especially when viewed up close...so...in that regard I'd slightly prefer the image if the squirrel was a little larger in the frame. I'm betting that detail I'm looking for would be evident if one was viewing a print of this (and thus my "nit" is more a function of the display medium than the image). How's that for diplomacy?

Cheers...good to see you posting in here Jim - come back whenever you can!

Nice to see you posting, Jim! I like this a lot. Great detail in the squirrel, which looks toasty in its winter coat. In fact I'm enjoying these wintertime images of squirrels quite a bit. Love the furry tail popping up out of the snow. Very appealing shot.

The BG with the diagonal lines is fantastic ..and the placement of the squirrel makes the image. The subject and the bg compliment each other ..well done..

This image scores on two counts for me firstly the cuteness and pose of the Squirrel and secondly the shadow pattern formed on the snow which makes it a good candidate for a monochrome conversion !! Gr8 Image making :toast:
