Welsh Sunset
by Geoffrey Baker
Taken at Ogmore near Porthcawl, S. Wales on Friday evening in the good company of Paul Rosser.
I usually wait until the Sun has dropped below the horizon before taking photos but this one was taken just before it set behind a narrow band of cloud.
It was only my second outing with my newly acquired camera equipment, the first outing was in foggy, wet weather over Christmas so I desperately needed to get some practice in.
The D3 is totally different to my old Sony A350 and the lens I now use doesn't accept filters so I have to blend images, but it's not that difficult, I never liked using filters anyway, they used to steam up on both sides in the cold weather, degrading the images and they would darken the cliffs, treetops etc too so I felt I wasn't in complete control like I am now.

All you've got to do now is work out your hyperfocals for the 14-24 - have fun!
Image looks really nice - though I too would want a bit more saturation and tonality in the sky.
Now if you started using Lightroom then you could use all the grad filters before you made the tiff!!
