Welsh Sunset

Taken at Ogmore near Porthcawl, S. Wales on Friday evening in the good company of Paul Rosser.

I usually wait until the Sun has dropped below the horizon before taking photos but this one was taken just before it set behind a narrow band of cloud.

It was only my second outing with my newly acquired camera equipment, the first outing was in foggy, wet weather over Christmas so I desperately needed to get some practice in.

The D3 is totally different to my old Sony A350 and the lens I now use doesn't accept filters so I have to blend images, but it's not that difficult, I never liked using filters anyway, they used to steam up on both sides in the cold weather, degrading the images and they would darken the cliffs, treetops etc too so I felt I wasn't in complete control like I am now.

2 images blended in Photomatix 3

Expertly done and composed. The 14-24 is a great lens, despite the bulging front. Good stuff here! The water looks like water, the density range in the rocks is great and the sunset is nicely subdued. :toast:

Looks great! It's a very realistic looking HDR blend, and I find the subject matter captivating and dramatic. :toast:

Geoffrey,

Real rugged coastline, excellent blend, very natural looking. The sunset is on the edge of being a hair to bright but it is more subdued in the larger version so maybe it's compression.

Very nice natural looking image. I wouldn't have guessed a blend. I was going to gripe about it being a little soft, but the larger version doesn't have that issue. Nice!

A very natural blend. Obviously a better sky would be nice but I like the comp and light-play on the water.

Great work Geoffrey, I especially like the texture of the rocks in the foreground as well as the overall natural colors.

Great foreground rocks and water motion Geoffrey. Excellent blend. Only minor nit is the hot spot above the sun.
