The Chase

Here is another fun shot. I was going through old trips to Bolsa Chica, Ca. and came upon this series where a Cormorant had a fish and a Brown Pelican started to chase him. I showed them to my wife. She enjoyed them and said I should post one. I choose this one because the Cormorant was most in focus and I like the expression one the Cormorants face. Wish I had increased the f stop. I hope you enjoy it. By the way, The Cormorant swallowed the fish and dove to get away. Crop shows 75% of original.

Comments are appreciated.

Harry, this is a fun shot, it had me chuckling. That pelican looks serious about trying to get the fish from the cormorant! I like the comp you used. I might consider lightening the midtones in a levels layer for this. Sometimes the action is so fast it is easy to forget dof.

Harry, I sure don't see much wrong with the dof on this… What a shot! That pelican looks like a sea monster compared to poor cormorant, which is no small bird. The look on both of their faces is priceless- bloodthirsty pirate pelican vs terrified cormorant. Wouldn't mind seeing more from the archives of the trips. Your wife is right. These should be seen and enjoyed!

Interesting and funny shot, I can see why the cormorant is trying to get away, that looks like a big pelican, way to go.

It's always fun to see nature in action. I'm not sure you needed to increase the f stop, you captured the entire story pretty clearly. really enjoyed this.
