Puffin in flight

Another Puffin photo from Skomer Island, Wales, UK.
Taken with an entry level Sony A350, I can't wait to let my Nikon D3 have a go at these birds later this year, I'm sure it'll be a lot different.

Sony A350
Sigma 50-500
1/800th
f7.1
ISO 100
230mm
-0.3 stop exposure compensation
Hand held

Nothing wrong with the results from the Sony. A fine flight shot. Good management of the blacks and whites. The angles aren't ideal but you've got a fine shot from what the bird gave you.

I agree with Jim - your Sony (and you) did a nice job here Geoff. Nice flight posture and I really like the background. No eye contact or head turn but I don't think all avian images need them and this works for me as presented.

Another wonderful puffin!
Love this view of the back and feet. Nice wing position, nice detail of both blacks and whites, and good BG.That one bright area on the side is a minor nit easily corrected.
Well done!

I'm pretty sure that with the Nikon, he would be flying toward you.
Actually, this just emphasizes that most of what makes the difference happens behind the camera. Great shot! :toast:

I reckon this is pretty good without a D3 Geoffrey - really sharp and good wing position

cheers

Great flight shot Geoffrey. When he lands and is out of breath is that a 'puffn puffin'?
That's my attempt at humor for this year!!!

Geoffrey

I like this alot, the pose works very well for my tastes and I love the blue color of the water. Beautiful natural colors.
