Where to begin! I have been posting primarily on the avian gallery since joining about a year ago trying to produce some decent images and have been neglecting landscapes. After looking at this gallery I realize that my images are falling far short of the images that I see here. I'm heading (driving) to Alaska this year with my hubby, and would like to capture some WOW photographs. So I'm humbly posting here in the hopes that I will learn from critiques and suggestions.

This images was taken in 2009 with my old equipment which I have since given to my daughter. I also shot for HDR before I knew anything about HDR. I've also just tackled the Photomatix Pro software to process the images. My Metadata does not show the camera used, but I can fill that in. Comments encouraged.

Dottie: A part of Yosemite not often photographed and one that is high on my list when I go back. I like the comp and you handled the midday light and high contrast pretty nicely. From the look of this I don't suppose you used a polarizer which would be my first suggestion when faced with a similar scene in the future. It makes skies more dramatic and has the added benefit of cutting reflected glare off surfaces and increasing saturation. I envy you the upcoming trip. Looking forward to more of your work. >=))>

I'm just like you Dottie, I can't never remember what camera was used, I can guess by looking at the year for me. This is a fantstic little view from Tuolomne Meadows. The photomatix did of great job of dealing with the mid day light and rendering the scene to how we see it.

I would of gotten a little closer to the rocks on the shoreline but I do the tree framing the sides of composition. The file does look a little soft and that could be a number of things, camera shake, bad sharpening or just web presentation? Thanks for sharing.

You did really good with this light, Dottie. The comp is good with the strong focus of the monolith and the framing of the pine trees.

You did a good job here. I like the framing with the trees and the stream leading your eye to the monolith. If you bring back a bunch more like this you can be proud showing them to your friends and telling about your trip. If you get back to this location, it would be fun to get a little closer and try to get a reflection of the rock in the stream

Dottie,

This is quite excellent in every respect. I think the processing is outstanding and indeed if this is an HDR processed image, it's one of the best I've seen; very natural, excellent color, contrast. If it is soft, I would say jpg compression more than anything.

the comp is lovely; open and well balanced. I think you should start sneaking in some more landscape images while out birding....

Dottie,

This brings back memories of many, many excellent climbing days in Tuolumne. I've climbed Lempert a few times, just for fun.

I like the image a lot. It's what Tuolumne looks like on a summer day. The comp works well, as do color and contrast.

Nicely done! And yes, do post more landscapes!
