You wanted one coming towards the camera, well, here's one

Taken on Skomer Island, Wales.
I thought it was going to land on my head, it came so close.

This was a rare occasion where my camera actually fired off 2 consecutive shots, well, with a top speed of just 2.5 frames per second I had to pick my moment carefully.

Sony A350
Sigma 50-500
1/1250th
f8
ISO 200
330mm
-0.3 stop exposure compensation
Centre-weighted metering
Hand held

Geoffrey, I envy your opportunities with these great birds. interesting pose, good comp, good exposure. I like the motion blur in the wingtips. Only thing missing for me is a little more light on the eye. I think there is a very thin halo, probably easily fixed, especially along the top of the bird.

Nice. Love the wing blur. A bit more light in the bird's left eye would increase the impact IMO, but that is just me.

Agree with brightening the eye, and I do see a halo here, also. Otherwise a fine image and a cool flight pose! Sharon

Geoffrey,

I wish I had the opportunities with this species that you do, I find puffins very appealing. Love the landing pose you have presented here. Would work on the halo and would see if I could enhance the brightness of the eye a small amount. I'd be happy to have this in my files.
