Ice Dreams

Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado.

I finally made it up to Rocky... always wanted to go in the fall, but especially the winter. It was fun shooting the cool ice abstracts on Dream Lake. Lots of different comps, textures, patterns, etc. In addition to shooting at Dream, my trip highlights were getting to go to the NPN Rocky Mtn Region's annual Shindig. So, in essence, my short trip revolved around meeting new people from NPN, hitting some local breweries in Denver, and having fun. It was great to meet the talented photographers from that region in person. Also, I had the pleasure of checking out Erik Stensland's amazing gallery located just outside of RMNP in Estes Park.

I'll probably get an ice triptych together for a future post, but so far, this is one of my favorites from the two separate trips up to Dream.

The compression may be killing all the details.... I had to drop down to 42 on the jpg level. Uggh.

Canon 5Dmk2, 90mm TS-E... two image stitch.

superb abstract. i would love to have a go at these myself (but for the moment, it'll have to remain on the wish list - it.s a fine 30 deg C here in mozambique ... at 6 in the morning!). the blues and tiny frozen bubbles - combined with the lines, makes this compelling. i'd like to see a much bigger version/print of this.

Nice, Jimmy! Looks like you got the processing down good for this post, the blues look just right here. Im pretty jaded since ive seen so many of these shots from Dream, but as TK says theyre like snowflakes--no two exactly alike--and its a cool subject. Hope to see you again out here--or next time i head to Cali!

Jimmy,

Incredible ice abstract. This is amazing in many aspects including the design of the lines, details and color. And your processing is right on here. Agree with Stan and others that the blue here is just perfect. I can't think of anything to suggest. Awesome.
