Black-throated Sparrow

A species of arid brush and cactus desert that is common to us in South Texas. I was drawn to this image for its pleasant perch and soft background.

Canon 7D, 300 mm f2.8 lens w/ 1.4 teleconverter, f5.0, ISO 500, 1/250, Aperture priority & tripod.

Great pose, with fine detail on the head and body. Interesting bit of branch for the perch too.
A higher f-stop would have allowed the entire bird toi be in focus - if that was your intent.
I have mixed feelings about the very off branches on the sides - effective as is, but cloning them out would allow a closer view of the bird and a more traditional crop.
Very nice!

I like this a lot Carlos. There is some incredible detail in the face and beak of the bird. I wish you had a tad more DOF so that the feet were equally sharp, but still fine work.

South Texas. You going to the NANPA meeting in March in McAllen?

You have rendered this sparrow very well, he looks very handsome. I wouldn't change anything. :toast:

Very nice photo with great detail on the face. A little more DOF would have been nice, but I like it as it is.

Nice shot, Carlos. I like the image of the bird against a BG that echoes his own colors.

Carlos, your ISO was already pretty high for the 7D and you SS was getting low, so I think your setting of f/5 was a good one in order to make sure the head of the bird was sharp, so I am not going to ask for any more DOF here. Nice shot of a really good looking species.

Very elegant shot, Carlos. I like very much the delicate particulars of the head and, as you say, the soft and warm toned background. Stylized and hieratic pose. An eye catching portrait, imho. :wavey:

very nice, Carlos. I like the comp and setting, the bird is nicely framed by the branches in the corners.
