Calling Crane

Here's another Sandhill Crane take-off from Bosque last month. Not a very exciting background, but I thought the open bill compensated for that. I cropped a bit from the bottom and added some to the top and right, so with the added canvas, this is 110% of full frame.

Your comments and critiques are appreciated. Please view the larger version if possible.

Canon 7D, 500mm, tripod

f/5.6, 1/4000, ISO 400, Manual exposure

Super detail in this shot Brian. This shot is another example of the kind of detail that is rendered from full-frame images. Compare this to a 40% of FF image and there would be no comparison. Bird is tack all the way around too. The flight posture is very dynamic. Well done.

Talk about filling the Frame! A bit on the tight side for my tastes, but wonderful detail and perfect exposure.

Well done.

Fabulous color and detail. Really like the forward wings position and as you mentioned, the open bill.

The crane looks simply spectacular Brian - the larger image is a real treat. I agree that it's a little tight as presented but what a way to show off wonderful detail, DOF and exposure!

Good depth, considering f/5.6. The head appears just a bit soft to me

Really good depth for f/5.6.The detail is fantastic! The head appears just a bit soft to me. Perhaps a smaller opening would have gotten that last bit in, considered that your speed was more than sufficient at !/4000 sec.

Rather impressive - this! Being a large bird, I don't find this tight.

Super sharp and crisp Brian - like the calling pose. I'd be tempted to give it a tad more room??

cheers
