An Eastern Storm + Repost
by Cristina Strudthof
In August I took a mini-trip to Yellowstone and this photo is near the eastern entrance. It is my first attempt at blending two exposures so I'm interested to hear what everyone thinks. Thanks

4 commentsWelcome to NPN and the ES&S/Landscape Gallery! Very nice first post here with a great sky and expansive landscape. There is some good drama in that sky and I think you could even exploit that even more with some additional processing; contrast or perhaps even a b&w rendition.
Would never have thought this was a blend of any sort so I think that means you did a good job with the blend and processing. I'm curious though, as just looking at this scene, I'm wondering if a multi-exposure blend was needed? Unless there really was quite a difference in light between the landscape and the sky.
On a minor side note, looks like some small buildings along the treeline. Very insignificant, but enough that is noticeable. Keep in mind for Man & Nature postings in the future - no biggie.
Welcome! We look forward to your images and participation in the forums and galleries.

What caught me about this scene were the clouds. They were dark and were all over the sky. When I began shooting, the dark clouds weren't showing up as dark as they were in person because there was still too much early afternoon light filtering through. So I began adjusting the exposure comp, thinking the setting would allow me the opportunity to practice blending exposures later in post-processing (since I'm still learning).
What appears to be buildings in the photo is actually the Yellowstone River peeking through the trees. I realize the white of the water against the green of the trees does make it distracting to the overall composition but since it was part of the scene I left it as is.
