This business of moving is the pits!

I've been in residence for a week and frankly I've seen far too many boxes over the past month.

Enough already! So my trusty lil Leica P&S (D-Lux 4) and I headed to the Botanical Cactus Garden at the Ethel M. Chocolate Factory about 2 miles from the apartment.

This is a Golden Barrel Cactus and according to Wikipedia, while it's very easy to grow, it's very rare in the wild. According to another source on the 'net, Huntington Gardens in Pasadena, CA has just about the best collection of Golden Barrel cacti in the world. Sounds like a good place to visit on my next trip to LA.

This was shot in Aperture mode, !SO 80, f/3.5, 1/500th s. -.66 EV.

Processing done with ACR and Viveza 2.

Thanks for viewing and leaving your comments and critiques.

:wavey:

Interesting image. The pattern of the needles pulls me in but at the same time their sharpness repels me. It looks painful, I don't want to get too close.

Strong comp, excellent detail and nice supporting light Carol. Glad to hear you're getting settled in and to see that you're posting again.

Lovely comp Carol - neat shot. I guess my head's been buried lately - where did you move to?

Excellent texture and a fascinating array of lines. I like your comp here, too. Well done.

Carol:
I like the light and shadow play in this very intricate image, making it very compelling. Glad you could get out to do some shooting. Looking forward to seeing your posts when you get back in full swing.

Do we take it you're getting so prickly about this moving business you went out and found a kindred spirit. :jump:

Having never seen one of these I am really struggling to get a sense of scale. I am pleasantly surprised by the dof given your aperture of f/3.5. I love the warm golden light and deep blacks to set off the fine detail of the cactus. Wonderful job Carol.

Hi Carol :wavey: I was looking for an egg in the nest, then i read the title  do you think a bird would use this cactus? seriously , You captured this cactus beautifully. The structured lines have amazing detail and interest.
