Heat (Winter Theme) +B&W

An Odd title for a snowy scene I suppose, until you notice the effect of the tree trunks on the snow cover. I think plants growing close to the forest's heat-collectors (as well as streams, like in the foreground here) will get a head start in the spring. This looks pretty good in black and white, but I decided to use the color version to emphasize the warmth of the trees.

Canon 50D
f/18 @ 1/200 sec.; ISO 200
Handheld

I like this Wayne especially the long shadows and animal tracks. Beautiful find on a glorious winter day.

Really nice comp and I think the color works well to your purpose, Wayne. The various tracks add to the image as well. Such an interesting winter scene.

Beautiful image Wayne. It really does make me want to be there. I particularly like the composition and the light. Good job on the exposure as has already been mentioned. I'll be interested in seeing the conversion if you decide to do it.

Wayne:
Lovely scene. Nothing beats a walk in quite snow covered woods for solitude and recharging ones batteries (energy). Wish I was there.

Quite Interesting here Wayne. Well thats natures ways. That aside the composition is outstanding, those long shadows on the whites are fantastic. Well seen and captured.

Hi Wayne,

Love the strong diagonal shadows.

I think this would have been stunning in black and white.

Cheers,

Carol

leaving the color really brings out the warmth of the scene, Wayne. The tracks are a nice touch.

Thanks everyone. I didn't know the tracks would be such a hit in the Flora Gallery. It's always good to follow the wild turkeys around when shooting in the snow.

PAT: You asked to see a B&W version. I did not save the B&W conversion, but I did save a closer view. (I tend to be more of a scientific illustrator than an artist, and this one concentrates more on the heat wells around the trees.) I'll have to brighten that gray-looking snow if I ever use this for anything.

I like it in b&w too Wayne. It's a strong composition and I think the heat wells are interesting. I also like the shadows and the turkey tracks of course.
