Photographing the Tunnel

by Emil von Maltitz

Gallery: Man & NaturePosted February 19, 20111,511 views12 comments
This was taken during a workshop to South Africa's Drakensberg Mountains. Sean, the assistant on the trip was photographing down the tunnel and the light played over him beautifully.

Any C&C is always appreciated.
Thanks for looking

With the light, there a really lovely colors within this remarkable geologic feature. The bare feet add a twist to the story I can hardly imagine. I could see the brighter foreground rocks being burned in a little bit, but this is quite excellent as you present it here. Well done.

This is an excellent shot. There is so much depth from the rocks and the formation and then you add the "National Geographic" effect of a bit of red. National Geographic photographers from 20+ years ago were famous (infamous?) for always carrying something red with them on assignments and getting it into their photos. It added a bit of color and drama.

hehe, yes I know all about the 'red shirt school of photography' Sean has a habit of wearing red so it wasn't all that difficult to include it.

This is a really cool looking image. I like the red shirt too. As Marc C mentioned, it really does look like Sean is standing on top of the water...very cool! Looks like an amazing place too.
