Gerbera Daisy (+repost)

This photo came to life somewhat unexpectedly. I was shooting an underexposed shot to blend for the background with a lighter shot of the blossom. Once I saw this version I liked it better than any of the others I'd taken.

Processed using levels with various layer masks for luminosity.

Pentax K-7, f/8, 1.3 sec, ISO-200.

Thanks for taking the time to look, C&C appreciated.

Regards,
Derek

Derek: Beautiful subject and a fine capture. My first and hasty impression was "too dark" but it is growing on me. Very Pat Sampson like. I hope you will take that as the high compliment it is meant to be.>=))>

Derek,

Looks like you're headed toward the dark side. (smile) Of course I like this as posted. The only thing I might consider doing is bringing up the brightness in the center a little and maybe overall. Always hard for me to tell. Don't know if you have Viveza 2 but it's pretty much perfect for taking a couple of control points and doing the selective exposure changes you want. If you like this style of image you might take a look at Harold Feinstein's flower books. I think he does it best and I'm still trying to emulate his style using a scanner. Very nice as posted for my tastes.

Nicely done. The lighting and color, though a little subdued, is still striking.

Thanks for the suggestions. Here is a version that's a little brighter.

Pat, I really do like this type of image, and I find yours a great source of inspiration. I'll definately look into Harold Feinstein's flower books. Thank You!

Hard for me to say Derek. I like them both and even though it was my suggestion I may prefer the first. I do like the darkness. I'm really looking forward to what you do. Only one caveat, when you get it figured out, you've got to explain it to me.

Very intriguing with the dark tone and mood. I checked again in a darkened room and it works very well when viewed that way.

Hi Derek :wavey: Spectacular reds  :jump: The composition features very good detail and light. concerning the second post, it's like asking comments on a beautiful sunset, is it better at 5.55 or 6'00 pm? very subjective. i like them both. Great work :toast:
