Dunes of Inverness Beach on a very windy autumn morning at dawn. Please let me know if the motion of the grass is too distracting.

Canon 5DM2
Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L at 24mm
ISO100 4sec f/16
SR Warming Polarizer

Thanks for looking. Comments and critiques welcome and appreciated.

To me the grass in motion looks very soft (good soft) rather than blurred, so it's not distracting to me.

I can figure out the slight blurredness in the grass, maybe a still slower shutter speed would outline the motion even more distinctly. In your picture it is not distracting for me. At least viewing on my monitor, I could imagine reducing the magenta in the lower part a bit. A very pleasant capture of the atmosphere!

Agree on Peter's comment regarding the magenta, but I really like this overall and I enjoy seeing the grasses at the SS you selected. Very nice Eva!

Lovely image. my eye skips over the grass and goes straight to the brighter sky with it's perfect focal point of clouds. When I do look down to the grass, I find it quite appealling

I think this is great Eva. An unusual shot of dunes, showing the diverse vegetation and such. The grass motion is a positive thing here IMO, and the sky color lends a wonderful mood. Thanks for sharing.

Lovely shot! I don't find the grass motion distracting. I also wonder if more motion in the grass would increase the sense of windiness, but with a 4s exposure, it's hard to see how you could get more motion.

Not for me. Overall another lovely shot from your favorite place. The only thing that I might change would be to crop the ocean to the left as it's brightness is slightly distracting. Removing it seems to make the lines of the grass and clouds diverging together that much stronger.

Hi Eva :wavey: Wow! you really know how to capture every aspect of the beauty of Iverness beach...The colors are marvelous, .I think your 4sec. exposure makes the grass motion perfect. Agree with Morris about the removal of the water on the Rt side.

Eva,

I think you've captured the effects and the sense of wind motion very well here. It's a very difficult thing to do with a "still" photograph. I'm not distracted by the grasses at all. I think they tell the story. Oh, and a great sky is up there too!

Beautiful image Eva. I really like the motion in the foreground grasses. The softness created by the blur of the grass complements the clouds in the sky.

I do not find the grass motion at all distracting, Eva. In fact, I really like how the motion in the grasses complements the clouds. Beautiful color. Another remarkable mood of your beach.

The sky is too bright and flat. The overall color balance has too much of a pink cast. The blurred grasses are somewhat distracting.

Thanks everyone for your helpful input. Here is a modified version with -
Reduced magenta and red in lower portion
Cropped out the eye magnet ocean
Lightened the right mid ground
Darker sky

I think this is very nice Eva. The repost looks great! Doing the suggested ideas really worked nice here. I like the motion in the grass alot and think it adds a nice feel to this. I would bet that in a location like this it is usually that way. :toast:

I've looked and looked and each time I read the comments, re-looked at this image, but it's not doing it for me. The composition is static, with the horizon split right down the middle and I can't really figure out what the photo is of. I do like the darker sky version, but I would crop out probably 1/3 of the sky.

I have to agree with Rodney here :frown: The 50/50 comp makes it feel static, which goes against the implied motion of the grass--and im not sure the ss was on target for the grass. I like the scene and idea--just doesnt come together for me here.

Hi Eva,
My first thought was that this is two beautiful pictures. I want to concentrate on the beautiful moving grass, but the beautiful sky keeps attracting my eye. The sky is so nice, I wonder if showing more of it (especially in a large print) would turn the grass into a wonderful anchor for this beautiful scene.
